Eastern White Cedar
Thuja occidentalis
Eastern white cedar is the hedge of Eastern Ontario. It grows naturally in our swamps, along limestone shorelines and on old fence lines across SD&G, so it is right at home in heavy, damp soils where other evergreens struggle. Planted in a row it makes a dense, green screen year-round; left alone it becomes a narrow, upright tree.
