The farm

Rooted in SD&G

We're a small, local tree farm in Long Sault, in the Township of South Stormont. Our land is used to do one thing well: grow excellent native trees for the people of Eastern Ontario.

Our story

Growing trees the patient way

A good tree can't be rushed. We're building our fields up season by season — planting young native stock and pruning, spacing and caring for it until it's ready to go home with a customer. While our own trees mature, we also hand-pick finished trees from trusted Ontario growers, held to the same standard. That patience and care are what turn a nursery whip into a strong, well-formed shade tree that will still be standing for your grandchildren.

We focus on native species because they're the right fit for our climate and our wildlife — and because there's real satisfaction in returning maples, pines, spruce and cedars to the yards, lanes and fields of Stormont, Dundas & Glengarry.

Our customers kept asking for help with the rest of the job — good soil to plant in, mulch to finish, and someone to plant the big ones. So we added a small landscape supply and a small in-house planting crew, both built around the trees we grow.

What we believe

  • Quality over quantity. A short list of species, done well.
  • Native first. Plants that belong here and support local ecosystems.
  • Honest advice. We'll tell you if a tree isn't right for your site.
  • Good neighbours. A tidy, quiet, responsibly run farm.
  • Local through and through. Grown in SD&G and Ontario, for SD&G.

How we operate

We believe our neighbours and our township should know exactly what happens on our property. Here's a plain-language summary of our operation.

ActivityRole on the farmHow it's run
Growing trees & shrubs Principal use Our land is planted in field rows of young native nursery stock. Planting, pruning, growing on and selling trees is the core of the business.
Resale of nursery stock Accessory & secondary While our own fields mature, we also sell finished native trees hand-picked from other Ontario growers, alongside our farm-grown stock.
Landscape supply Accessory & secondary A small selection of soil, mulch and decorative stone sold mainly alongside our trees. Kept in a compact, designated storage area. No crushing, screening or processing of materials on site.
Planting & install crew Accessory & secondary A small in-house team that plants our trees and does small bed and stone installs at customers' properties. Work happens off-site; equipment is stored neatly on the farm.

Our commitments to the community

  • We do not accept fill, excess soil, construction debris or waste of any kind
  • Daytime business hours only; customer visits by appointment
  • Low traffic volumes — mostly pickups and our own delivery trips
  • Tidy, organized storage with no unsightly stockpiles
  • No invasive species grown or sold

Following the rules

We intend to operate fully within the Township of South Stormont's zoning by-law and any site plan requirements, the United Counties of SD&G Official Plan, and provincial rules — including Ontario's excess soil regulation and Ministry of Transportation requirements for commercial vehicles.

Stewardship

Caring for the land

Healthy soil

Cover crops between rows, careful cultivation and minimal bare ground keep our soil productive and in place.

Water-wise

Targeted watering of young stock and buffers along drainage areas help protect local waterways.

Habitat

Native trees and shrubs provide shelter and food for birds and pollinators — on our farm and in every yard they go to.
