Soils we carry

Two mixes cover almost every job. Not sure which? Tell us what you're planting and we'll point you to the right one.

Screened topsoil

Clean, screened topsoil with the stones, roots and lumps taken out. Use it for new lawns and overseeding, grading and filling low spots, topping up beds and backfilling around newly planted trees.

Garden soil (triple mix)

A rich blend of topsoil, compost and peat. The go-to for vegetable gardens, flower beds, raised beds and planters, and for amending heavy clay before you plant.

Topsoil questions

What is the difference between topsoil and garden soil?

Screened topsoil is natural soil with the debris screened out — best for lawns, grading and backfill. Garden soil (triple mix) adds compost and peat for richer, looser soil that vegetables and flowers prefer.

How much does a cubic yard of topsoil cover?

One cubic yard covers about 80 sq. ft. at 4 inches deep, or about 160 sq. ft. at 2 inches. Use the calculator above for your own dimensions.

How much topsoil fits in a pickup truck?

A half-ton pickup can usually carry about half a cubic yard of soil safely; a one-ton truck or a tandem trailer can take more. Soil is heavy — around a tonne per yard when damp — so tell us what you're driving and we'll load accordingly.

Can I buy topsoil without buying trees?

Yes. Our supplies are geared to our tree customers, but you're welcome to buy soil on its own, subject to availability.

Need soil for a planting?

Add topsoil or garden soil to your tree order and we'll bring it all at once. See also our mulch and decorative stone.
